The turkey finisher operation utilizes six poultry barns of various sizes to produce the annual output of over one hundred thousand tom turkeys. The birds are grown under a supply contract with the Virginia Poultry Growers Coop located in Hinton, Virginia. The "finish only" contract is accomplished by receiving young birds from a brood farm when the poults are around five weeks old. The turkeys have grown to market size by the time they reach nineteen weeks of age. At this age the birds should average over forty pounds. Soon after the market age birds are removed, the cycle starts again.
